Welcome to the memorial web page for Marhum Ahmed Sheriff Dewji

Marhum Ahmed Sheriff Dewji was a scholar, Zakir of Ahlul Bayt (AS) and a servant of the community. He was fluent in Arabic, Farsi (Persian), Urdu, Kiswahili, English & Gujarati. Marhum's service to the community was extensive including Chairmanship of Moshi Jamaat, Chairmanship of Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania for 15 years, Leadership of the Jaffery School Board in Mombasa, and participation in the activities of Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya (Mombasa).

He had a distinct recitation style of the Gham (martydom narration) of Imam Husayn (AS) at the end of his informative majaalis and used to provide translations at various points whilst reciting Du'as at mosque - at a time when scarce attention was given to the translation of Du'as in the community and PowerPoint slides did not exist. Many of the topics which he covered in his articles, books and majaalis are still relevant decades after his death. He breathed his last, having just come down from the mimbar (pulpit) during the recitation of Sura Yaseen, after having delivered a majlis on Dhikrul Maut (Remembrance of Death). Incredibly, rather than sit on the wall, where Zakireen would normally sit after majlis, he sat leaning on the mimbar, facing the Qibla.

This webpage has been created to share some of his articles, books as well as audio of his lectures and recitation of Du’as. Please note that some of the links on this website direct you to external websites.
